The SlimWrite™ Weight Loss System (“SlimWrite" or the "System”) is an easy to use approach for measuring, evaluating, and managing your eating and exercising habits so you lose weight, get in shape, and stay that way.

The system consists of Monthly Journals set up for up to 31 days that you use to record what you eat each day and what you do when you exercise. You do not have to weigh or measure food or get real detailed about exactly what you did when exercising. All you do is jot it down in the SlimWrite as you go through the day.

At the beginning of each day, you visualize a plan and set goals for what you intend to do. At the end of each day, you assess how you did. That's it.

The power of SlimWrite is how you will change once you start to become aware of what you are eating and doing (or not doing) for exercise and the impact your habits are having on your and your life.

Background of the SlimWrite System

Jim Ball created the SlimWrite method several years ago when he decided to get serious about losing weight, exercising, and living a healthier life-style. Using SlimWrite Jim literally wrote his way to better health and fitness. He lost thirty pounds in about six months, began a lifelong habit of exercise, and improved his energy and positive attitude about health and fitness.

The SlimWrite approach may not be right for everyone. There can be no guarantees of whether this method will work for you or the results you may achieve. All we can say for sure is that after years of overeating, losing weight and gaining it right back, and living a sedentary lifestyle, Jim got himself on a healthier track and his SlimWrite tool was a key to his success.

SlimWrite Concept

The idea behind SlimWrite™ is that it is not possible to adjust behavior unless you know what your behavior is and how it is affecting your life.

Like the popular saying goes, “you cannot manage what you do not measure.” You also cannot manage what you are not aware of – accurately and specifically. If you do not write down the facts, you allow yourself to fool yourself.

Many behavior change approaches like Smokenders® for quitting smoking and Weight Watchers® for losing weight incorporate the principle of recording and observing your existing habits.

Jim had used Smokenders to quit smoking and was successful. Therefore, when he decided it was time to get in shape he created SlimWrite to apply this technique of "writing-it-down" to his health, eating, and exercise habits.

He designed and created a unique 30-Day Journal to record what he ate each day and what he did for exercise. This was an easy, portable system he could use anywhere at anytime and it worked..

The SlimWrite approach is simply to record everything you do relative to your health habits for eating and exercise and then comment in journal-like fashion how you feel about what you are actually doing. The more details you provide, the more information you will have to evaluate and use to change your behaviors to those you want to have.

The SlimWrite approach does not tell you what to do; it only records what you are actually doing. We all know what we need to do to lose weight and get in shape. We must exercise, eat less, and eat more fruits and vegetables while cutting out or back on sweets, candy, bread, and other items. The key to making changes is awareness of the facts and focusing on them.

Since we know what to do, the SlimWrite strategy is just to record and observe our actual food intake and activity level with the thought being that the facts themselves will set us free and cause us to change our behavior.

By taking just a few minutes each day to record what you eat and the exercise you have you will write your way to better health and fitness. When you keep a daily health and fitness journal, you can no longer fool yourself and ignore what you are doing, good or bad, to your own health.

We suggest that SlimWrite users get into the habit of recording their entries in their SlimWrite on a routine basis at the same time and in the same manner every day. This can after each eating or exercising activity or once each day at the same time every day.

The approach Jim uses is to complete his SlimWrite at the end of each day just before he goes to bed for the night.

Jennifer Kuchta, writes her entries after every meal or snack. She says, "If I don't write it when I eat it, it slips my mind. It is the only way for me to be honest with myself when I am snacking on stuff I shouldn't be eating."

 
         
  Change what you eat  

Change Your Life by Changing What You Eat

One of the things you will find when using the SlimWrite system is that by recording what you eat, you will start eating differently almost immediately.

If you write down at 8:30 p.m. you had a big bowl of ice cream with chocolate sauce, your brain will tell you that wasn't a good move. This will prod you to get back on track and start eating better right away.

On the other hand, if you record eating a lunch of salad topped with chunks of salmon and walnuts with a vinaigrette dressing, your brain will tell you that was good. This will inspire you to stay on track for the rest of the day.

Repeated exposure to writing and seeing what you eat day-in and day-out will produce changes in what you eat over time. Sooner or later, you will begin to change the way you eat permanently.

A great plus about the SlimWrite approach is you never beat yourself up for what you did or did not eat or do relative to exercise. Every day is a new beginning with a new goal. Every day is a fresh start and an opportunity to do better.

We recommend writing in your SlimWrite the first thing in the morning by jotting down your eating and exercise goals for the day. Just a thumbnail summary of your health and fitness goals will help you plan for a better day.

The key is to remember that you are writing to yourself. This is for you, not someone else. Use smiley faces, balloons, whatever kind of notations you want to help you see, think, and feel to give yourself the needed feedback to make changes in your life.
